Bunch is Sheldon

Ok, because of work I don't get to see The Big Bang Theory but I do read the synopsis at IMdb, so I do know whats going on. I was watching clips at You Tube and just now saw it. Bunch IS Sheldon. Not in the super smarts area, but in sometimes in the way he looks and acts. OMG! Like I said, I love Bunch, but still... he has tendencies of Sheldon.

Go Bunch! Sheldon's character is from TX and you are from AR. So I guess they could be similar.

:)

NCIS Rules

Love NCIS. And of course Gibb's rules. In this last episode there were a number of things that reminded me, of Kemper of course. As I know there has to be a list of all the Gibbs rules I checked the Net. There is. On this one web site, it said, "A slap to the face is an insult — to the back of the head is a wake-up call."

I can't speak how it was after I left Kemper, but I know I got a few and I delivered a lot of 'wake up calls' to many. Also, the old adage of there are no ex-marines. So forgive me Marines but I also would say there are no former Kemper cadets, as that there are no former "insert military branch, unit, etc" here. the reason the Marines are so hard corps is because of their training and their code. Don't get me wrong, the Army has training and USMJ, but special units do have their own code of honor.
Also, while at Kemper, we were taught things, learned things and developed things that have lasted through our lives. Good or bad, there are no former Kemper cadets; we were and shall ever be, Kemper Old Boys.

Like when Gibbs answered if he believed in a code of justice. At Kemper, we had our own; the Standard of Honor. We knew, you screw up with those that's one thing. But we also had our own code when it came to each other. We don't screw over our own. Another is that you back the people you went to school with. Breaking these unwritten rules is not a crime. Hell, the person breaking them probably won't even loose sleep. But. You do that to one of us; you loose that trust. And while that person may not tell the rest of the group about it, if asked he'll tell his reasons why he no longer trusts that person. After that, its on that person to decide whether they trust them or not. And while we can never loose the blood between us, the best way to say it is; "They will always be a brother, they are just not a friend."

This is what they have so far about Gibb's Rules:
Rule #1: Never let suspects stay together.
Rule #1: Never screw over your partner.
Rule #2: Always wear gloves at a crime scene.
Rule #3: Don't believe what you're told. Double check.
Rule #3: Never be unreachable.
Rule #4: The best way to keep a secret? Keep it to yourself. Second best? Tell one other person - if you must. There is no third best.
Rule #6: Never apologize — It’s a sign of weakness.
Rule #7: Always be specific when you lie.
Rule #8: Never take anything for granted.
Rule #9: Never go anywhere without a knife.
Rule #10: Never get personally involved on a case.
Rule #11: When the job is done, walk away.
Rule #12: Never date a coworker.
Rule #13: Never, ever involve a lawyer.
Rule #15: Always work as a team.
Rule #18: It's better to seek forgiveness than ask permission.
Rule #22: Never, ever bother Gibbs in interrogation.
Rule #23: Never mess with a Marine's coffee if you want to live.
Rule #27: Two ways to follow: — First way they never notice you, — second way they only notice you.
Rule #38: Your case, your lead.
Rule #39: There is no such thing as coincidence.
Rule #40: If it seems someone is out to get you, they are.
Rule #44: First things first. Hide the women and children.
Rule #45: Left a mess I've got to clean up.
Rule #51: Sometimes — You're Wrong

Dam! Yeah! Dam! (Drop Dead Diva)

Ok, I explained previously how I got hooked on Drop Dead Diva. How much I really liked Brooke and at that time I was almost through the first season (thanks Hulu). When the season finale comes, and while not a cliff hanger, a bunch of unresolved things. Love it!

Then caught a pre-view of the 2nd Season. Loved it more! Fred is back in his full-time Guardian angel status. Yeah! Jane has a problem; her secret husband shows up. Of course the Jane that is Jane now, doesn't know who he is. But the body of Jane likes him. And of course we still have the possible dis-barment,(Dam) her current boyfriend who wants to go away to Nappa with her, (he is a nice guy, so could go either way there) and of course Grayson, who broke up with his attorney girlfriend and was having dreams about Jane (also either way). Don't get me wrong, I like Grayson, he is a good guy. But, this Jane is not the same model that woke up in Jane's body. And while Jane was very good, we do see she had her faults; like her relationship with her mom.

Ok, ok, ok. I know. I know waay too much. Did I mention I really love this show! Its not all beautiful California people, but people I think most can relate too. Especially Jane.

Her personality and the way the story intertwines to see how some problems have a solution right in your face. And then the legal cases are not all murders or high profile. Divorce, dog cloning, and other interesting, but not 'sensational, must crack by the end of the hour or the killer goes free' kind of stuff. And that end of the season finale case, was really good. I think the real answer at the end was a bit rushed, but considering the show, I can make allowances for it. I liked the twist and again, great guest star. I can't remember the actress's name, but I remember seeing her in CSI, NCIS and some others. I love her. She plays a great baddie/bad ass.

Alright I have gushed enough. As I said, there are few series that I really get into. And with Hulu, when they run the whole season and you can get caught up in the character, verses having to wait a week and then get excited all over; dam those aliens at Hulu.

I tried 30 Rock, Parks and Recs, The Office, American Family.... Sorry. Tina Fey doesn't really do it for me. Especially with her doing Palin. And The Office; I think the British version was better. Parks and Rec...where do I begin. And American Family.... those last two I have seen a few episodes and while I wouldn't be a regular, they do offer occasional diversity. Like trying a new restaurant once in a while or ordering something different every once in a while.

I like this because its like a life 'do over.' A great 'What if?'

While I could be critical on Lifetime at times, this is not one of them. Bravo. Kudos.

I love a new show... Drop Dead Diva

As most of my many many followers (ok, the 6 of you) probably know, I love sci fi, fantasy and military shows. With enough comedy ones to make it interesting. But, there are occasions when I surprise people. And in turn I surprise myself with what I like.

And as you know, if I experiment with a new show, I must watch the pilot as I hate watching a show 5 episodes in and I have no idea whats going on. So when Hulu came up with Drop Dead Diva, and gave a short description on it, and had the 1st season, I decided to check it out. Also the lead I thought was pretty. Sue me, I love a pretty face.

I am hooked on this show. Part of it is because its a great show and the writing and acting by all involved. But a bigger part is because of Brooke Elliott, the actress playing the lead.

I know at times I have an addictive personality; so I am watching all 13 of the first season on Hulu and glad to hear that it has a 2nd season on Lifetime.

Besides the premise: a blond model dies and comes back in the body of a plus size lawyer. She wasn't bad enough or good enough and punched the return button and went back here to earth. So this is a personality change/life experience. I love Brooke Elliott, the actress playing Jane the lawyer! She is very pretty and I love her personality. I hope that she is like that in real life.

Also, considering that it deals with something that I am familiar with, which is being big. And like her character, I hate the word Fat. Luckily I have never had a poor self image of myself. If I try and figure out why; my parents always said they loved me for who I was, and that if people couldn't see that, then they weren't worth knowing. And you know what; I believed them. I am also lucky enough to have great friends.

Example: Bunch. He once said that I ordered at McDonalds; 2 Big Macs, 2 large fries and a medium Diet Coke. I laughed. I thought it was funny. Not in some 'trying to fit in' way either, but because it was cute. Did I feel bad? No. Was it hurtful? No. I know; in this day and age, some kid would spend months on a couch trying to get through his feelings if someone said this about him. Am I making fun of kids today? In some ways maybe I am. Its the old story of how rough it was in the 'old days.' Peer pressure. You know what; I didn't have any of the fancy stuff that the kids have these days - Internet, cell phone, etc. What I did have were parents that loved me, spanked me when I made a mistake, but that never stopped them from loving me when I was a kid. And great friends at a military school. Did we all like the same things? Hell no. But guess what? That never stopped us from loving each other.

So Bunch: love him to death. I'd back any play he wanted, and God forbid if someone tried to do anything to him. Does that mean I don't try and play tricks on him when I can? No. Or when we get together do we not talk crap about each other? Also no. And I know he wouldn't pass up a good practical joke on me either. But; has he had my back? Always. For over 30 years. And I have had his.

That's one of the many reasons why I love this show. Her friends; the model from her old life and her assistant from the new one. Luckily one of the things that Kemper taught us was that it didn't matter what we looked like. It was truly what was inside that was important.

I love that she takes on the concept that being big leads people to prejudice. And that it is hard to find clothes. That maybe more for women than men. But the ability to have any kind of relationship is difficult at first. People do judge you by your looks and size. If they just took the time to know you. I try not to judge until I have all the facts. And even then, we can't know everything about someone.

I always use this example: I once convinced this tall, gorgeous red head with a body like the proverbial shit house, to have lunch with me. Afterwards I said, "Well that was fun, we should do it again." I never wanted to do that again. Her personality and mine were NOT compatible. I actually thought about leaving. After that I asked this other woman out who worked at a mall I went to. In a lot of ways she was like Jane; bigger with a very pretty face and a fantastic personality. We had a great time and made out some. The only reason I didn't pursue it further at the time, was that she was looking for something more serious at the time than I was then.

I love this show. I will be getting the first season on dvd when I can. I know none of my guy friends will be watching it with me, as its not their cup of tea. Will I catch flack about it? Sure. But then I catch it about other things. Does it bother me? Hell no. Because I know, that while they may not care for it, they respect that I do. And, as we have gotten older, we understand a lot more now than we did when we were young. Besides, they have their little things that they like too.

In this case, Lifetime has a great hit. Its very current, and it has a law aspect. With shows like Law & Order, CSI, etc. they are going at it from that angel. Personally I think it reminds me more of LA Law. It does have its eye candy too. It all shapes and sizes. And it has great story lines and fantastic guests. S far it hasn't jumped the shark. I do miss the guardian angel though. I thought his and the blond roommate's romance was going to be fun. And I like that they highlight Brooke Elliott's singing. Not all the time. Just enough. And with the pop culture references she makes, its cute.

Try this show out; but like I said, you really need to see the pilot. I would love to get an autographed picture of Brooke and the rest of the cast. And hey, if I ever got to meet her... yeah I know. Big fan boy here. What can I say? I know what I like.

Keep up the great work Brooke.

Two Things

This was going to be a rant about Mizzou being part of the Big Ten or whatever conference we are now in. It was a hard pill to swallow when we went from Big 8 to Big 12. But ok, it was still the same teams, same rivalries. It sucks as this seems to be all about money. Maybe its me, especially since I am jaded about things especially when it comes about things changing when it comes to money (Kemper). Anyway though, I know there are some who love it and others who will always hate it. The two big sports nuts in the office (Brian & Dan J.) I hear talking; but they are probably pragmatic about it; anything that would help them televise all the games so they could see them is probably ok with them.

Still... I have a Big 8 Flag (somewhere-packed away). I got it right after they went over to the Big 12. Now its 10. Wow. First 8, then 12, now 10.

Ok, now a bit of sad news. All you sports nuts can stop reading as you won't know who I am taking about, but you would know his art.

http://sirspamdalot.livejournal.com/68226.html

Frank Frazetta passed away. He was THE artist for a long time. I remember seeing his art on the covers to many many of my Conan books and other sci fi and fantasy books that I read. Because of him I started paying attention to who drew the pics and became friends and became fans of those who had talent with pen and ink. And I know to a person, those artists ALL tip their hats to him. In my opinion, he was to the fantasy and sci-fi art what Gygax was to role playing.

Gods speed Frank and thank you. You helped define a lot of artists and also sell copies of books. You also inspired the imaginations of everyone who ever saw a piece of your work.

A little gaming please

I have been DMing a small game off and on for about 2 months now. So far we have had 2 sessions in 2 months. Moving a long at a snail's pace. Multitude of reasons why we can't get together more; in any case it is good in that it breaks the rust off my DMing and is helping me fine tune this adventure. I also showed them an article that I had finally found online; that I actually had the issue for at one time and made of copy of: Confessions of a Dungeon Master. When I showed it, one of my players asked, "You get it out of Dragon magazine?" No...Psychology Today, 1980. Yeah I am a little older than those I play with.

It is a very well written article. And it even spawned my favorite saying of "The dice never lie."

Maybe that's why I love tables and charts in D & D. Roll to see what you get, what happens and things like that. That's why I like the 'Iron Man' (no relation to the comic or the movie) concept of D & D. The term was coined as you rolled 3d6, OK, I relented a bit and let them roll 4d6 for their stats in order.

Translation-the difference in rolling 3 6-sided dice and rolling 4 six sided dice, in order to gain the attributes of the character they would be playing.

In any case, anything that moves us forward.
