Day 178 - Movie Weekend

This was another movie weekend of seeing movies I had missed in the theaters. Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler. A very nice movie, it was Disney after all. Not great, but a good one. Worth the rental and its kid friendly so you can watch with anyone.

The Note II: Taking A Chance on Love. Ok, I saw the first one, and loved it. And wanted to see what was going to happen in this second one. And that Ted McGinley is married to Gigi Rice and that Genie Francis is married to Jonathon Frakes. But these two had a great chemistry and the story is always great, its from the Hallmark Channel.

And finally Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I didn't know how much I would like this movie, as far as indie music, I am cold/luke warm on. BUT Kat Dennings I fell in love with, and with her character. And Michael Cera I view as the 21st Century's everyman. I never saw Super Bad or Juno, but he did a great job in this movie. LOVED this movie. Watched it thrice. To me that's the mark of a great movie.

Day 173 Canadian Television

No, I am not going to knock Canada TV. And as funny as some of the jokes from "How I Met Your Mother" about Canada are, I actually like Canada. And they also have some very good TV shows. One that I found on Hulu is called: Stone Undercover. They say its like The Rockford Files, especially since one of the actors in that is in this, Stuart Mangolin. He was also in my favorite movie: Kelly's Heros.

This is a very good series. The main lead reminds me of Matthew McConaghey. So I wonder if that's why it is popular. I could see him playing this character also.

Anyway, I am glad that you can watch the episodes in order to under his origins and background. I have only seen the first two, and I love it. Also, the country is beautiful. And I was in Calgary once, so I think that's neat. I recommend it. Check it out on Hulu as I have no idea how to see it on TV.

Day 172 - Movie Weekend

This weekend I decided to do something I hadn't done in a while; I rented a couple of movies-Taken and Yes Man.

I had wanted to see Taken because, come on; a former spy go after the bastards that take his daughter. Great storyline. and I like that he is not a feel good, PC spy. Even to the point where he shot his ex-friend's wife in the arm. Like he said, It was only a flesh wound. Besides, she should be pissed that her hubby was on the take of the slavers. And it shows that torture does work on occasions. It was a good movie, but predictable. I did like seeing his spy friends; actors that I hadn't seen in a while; especially the guy from "Profiler." And the twist with the diva singer was a nice touch. Good movie.

Yes Man with Jim Carey. I was a bit hesitant, as this could have been like Liar, Liar. And in some respects it was. But that's fine as that was part of the comic genius of the movie. But that's the only similarity. Loved this movie! And it had actors that I hadn't seen in a while; like the new head of NCIS, Kate from NCIS, Bud from JAG and Molly Simms from Vegas as his ex-girlfriend. And I must say I was impressed when he did say "no" to her. But that was part of the charm of this movie. By saying yes to so many experiences, he helped people and formed friendships, like with Norm and his costume parties, which I don't acre, looked kinda cool. And yeah, I have been to a few of those, and I don't care, they are fun, and I like them! Then of course there is Zooey Deschanel. Love her!

Of course his friends had that kid from the 70's Show. I just feel he keeps playing the same kind of character over and over. Not bad, does get old. And then there is Bradley Cooper. I first remember seeing him in Failure to Launch, and thought this guy is good. And now he is in The Hangover, which I REALLY want to see. And I have heard they are working on The Hangover 2. I really hope he goes on to do more stuff. he has a very subtle comedic genius I like.

I just looked up the homeless guy, as I remember seeing him in a few shows, and I was shocked to learn that Brent Briscoe is from Moberly, Missouri and he graduated from the University of Missouri! Wow, small world (but I wouldn't to paint it).

I ended up watching this movie three time. So yeah I really liked it. Want to own it eventually.

Day 157 - Strike Masters by Bill Kellan

Its amazing what old friends can do for you. From lifting you up to bringing you down. But somewhere in the middle some things become clear. Its hard to explain without back and front stories, but some things do become clear. Like cutting loose the sand bag on a hot air balloon. The light bulb does appear. Or maybe like the Wizard of Oz when he accidentally lifted off before Dorothy was ready. Or biting the apple. One started, you can't stop. And believe you me, we are no longer in Kansas anymore (or Missouri).

Just finished the book "Strike Masters" by Bill Kellan. (And yes I have an autographed copy!) I should have realized what modern military strategists know; fixed fortifications are no longer a viable option. What with airborne, air assault or saboteurs. The walls that once protected you are no longer a viable or effective option. When an enemy knows where you are and can attack you at their whim; putting you on the defensive, then the effectiveness of that unit comes into question. Then the enemy can chip away at it until they breach the walls. This is a great piece of work and combined arms-not to mention black ops AND Area 51. What more could you want?! If reality could only take pages from work of fiction then maybe the world would be be better. We need a supertanker and/or a C-5 to stay mobile and under any radar that's out there. Like Sun-Tzu, you decide, not the enemy. And those that aren't with you are against you. Great work of fiction, better than The Executioner series by Don Pendelton. And I love that series.

Day 153 - HIACGMOOH & late night shows

I feel bad about what I am to admit. I actually watched the first episode of Help I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. I always like to see what kind of B rated people they have and what kind of sick minds the creators to get us, the regular people to watch.

Now, I like Lou Diamond Phillips. From Numbers, to his war movies; never saw La Bamba, and the Young Guns stuff never appealed to me. But I like him. and then there is a Baldwin. And this one makes his living off doing these things, but, I do kinda like him also. he makes fun of himself and does try, so hes ok. The rest; I had no clue who they were. well I take that back. The mother of "Super-Model" I recognize cause I always saw a pre-view for her reality TV show. Never watched it. But knew who she was. And I was thinking to myself, she looks good, but she has had a LOT of work done. Isn't she like 60 or something?

The others were what I thought of as typical; people I never had heard of. and then these two twist from The Hills. OMG. I thought I had seen spoiled and pampered-these 2 take the cake. I wish they HAD left on that first day. I know I will never watch that show, ever. Granted, I never knew it, didn't care, and will never watch it. and if these two never do anything else on TV or any other kind of media, it will be too soon. They need a reality check, a spanking (no time out here) and then they need to be spade and neutered so they can not reproduce.

If they were acting (and I use that term loosely with those two) they did a good job of making us hate them. Lou Diamond and the other actually made me like them; even the ones I had never heard of.

In short-here is another reality show I will not watch. Some people may say I supported them by watching it on TV. Wrong. I caught on Hulu, when there was absolutely nothing else that I had not already seen a dozen times, so I thought I would try. I see I was wrong. And hope that watching it on line does not put any money into their pockets.

In that vein; I caught the last Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Always did like him, and he went out with class; very similar to how Johnny did-but still Johnny ruled Jay, sorry. But Jay was classy and still love him. Then saw Conan on the first episode of the Tonight Show. Very good. Very impressed. I was a little worried about him. And I am sorry to say, that Will Ferrell who I love as an actor, came across as not too good on there. Don't know what it was. and then I caught Jimmy Fallon. Excellent band! And Jimmy did a very good job. Some good skits. But thought he ran long with some political stuff. Just my opinion there. But all in all, a very good job. I wouldn't mind watching him again, if nothing else, that band who has a sousaphone player, IS GREAT!

Those are my 2 cents.

Day 151

I love hearing from old friends, especially when they are 'family.' Even more so when they are actually related to you. A friend from school, and we didn't even attend there at the same time, but who we figured is related to me, since his name is on my dad's side of the family tree, called me. Hes in Florida, and just wanted to catch up. Man he made my night.

We both went through the "curse." And we both went through the stages after divorce. And we both figured out that we need to be ready for a relationship if it was going to happen. I told him he will probably find that special woman before I even begin to think about looking for a special lady.

He will get there as we also both agree that what Kemper taught us, has carried us through the years. And as we have said, if you weren't there, its hard to explain.

Maybe I was feeling a little isolated lately and needed a call. Now I am ready to face what life throws.

The men and women I went to school with; I really can't say enough about-whether we were there at the same time or years apart. The school bound us together. The ideology and the traditions weave us tighter than any thread or binding agreement.

I was lucky in this case. I took to it like a duck to water. Ok, the first year I had a hard time swimming; but once I learned...

Thanks Shack.
