Its amazing what old friends can do for you. From lifting you up to bringing you down. But somewhere in the middle some things become clear. Its hard to explain without back and front stories, but some things do become clear. Like cutting loose the sand bag on a hot air balloon. The light bulb does appear. Or maybe like the Wizard of Oz when he accidentally lifted off before Dorothy was ready. Or biting the apple. One started, you can't stop. And believe you me, we are no longer in Kansas anymore (or Missouri).
Just finished the book "Strike Masters" by Bill Kellan. (And yes I have an autographed copy!) I should have realized what modern military strategists know; fixed fortifications are no longer a viable option. What with airborne, air assault or saboteurs. The walls that once protected you are no longer a viable or effective option. When an enemy knows where you are and can attack you at their whim; putting you on the defensive, then the effectiveness of that unit comes into question. Then the enemy can chip away at it until they breach the walls. This is a great piece of work and combined arms-not to mention black ops AND Area 51. What more could you want?! If reality could only take pages from work of fiction then maybe the world would be be better. We need a supertanker and/or a C-5 to stay mobile and under any radar that's out there. Like Sun-Tzu, you decide, not the enemy. And those that aren't with you are against you. Great work of fiction, better than The Executioner series by Don Pendelton. And I love that series.
